Testing the KMart USB 3.0 4 Port Hub

We recently purchased a couple of anko 4-Port USB Hubs from KMart Keycode: 42551140 Barcode 9341105060843 for AUD$15.00 each.

Initially we though that the price and features are pretty good, however the first specification caused some concern as it does not meet the USB 3.0 power specifications.

Output Current:
DC 5V, Max 0.5A Via computer USB 2.0 port
DC5V, Max 0.9A via computer USB 3.0 port

The first common use of a hub is to plug in a USB 3.0 Flash Drive, we tested two: Toshiba 32GB and two Sandisk 32GB drives. Each of the three failed to be detected by the computer. LED Lights on the flash drives did not light.

Plugged the Flash Drives directly into the USB 3.0 port on the computer and no problem.

Moved the anko USB 3.0 hub to an USB 2.0 port with USB 3.0 flash drives and No Problem.

In summary, the two brand new anko hubs from kMart would not work with two different brand USB Drives.

Our recommendation is not to buy this product from KMart.
